West Virginia Operation Lifesaver presenters took the Big Red Bus and the Locomotive Simulator to the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival in Milton in October. The four day event, which draws thousands of people from several states, was another successful outing for WVOL. According to WVOL State Coordinator, John Perry, "We always make a tremendous amount of contacts here. This was our fifth year at this festival, and it gets better each year."
Each year on Thursday and Friday, the festival hosts thousands of school children from several counties. The children get to enjoy the event, and each child receives a pumpkin to paint and decorate for the pumpkin painting contest.
The festival also hosts the big pumpkin contest, and this year's winner weighed in at 1192 pounds.
Many WVOL presenters helped with the event. "It takes a lot of people to work something of this size, and our presenters showed up in force." said Perry.
